Andy Warhol (1928-1987) would have celebrated his 98th birthday on August 11th.
Warhol is being honored with a birthday party and exhibit at the Huntsville Museum of Art in Alabama.
“Most people think of his iconic soup cans, or Marilyn Monroe prints, which we have both of those as well, but this is looking at who Andy Warhol is as an artist. It’s looking at his film work, his fashion work, his photography, how he viewed celebrity, how he viewed the artistic process,” said Audrey Creel, Education Associate with the Huntsville Museum. “So, it’s a really great, all-encompassing look at who Andy Warhol was and his impact on pop culture.”
Warhol: film, fashion, photography will be on view at the Huntsville Museum through October 18, 2026.
One of Warhol’s greatest, and most enduring, achievements, was Interview Magazine, which he founded with journalist John Wilcock in 1969. It was nicknamed The Crystal Ball of Pop. It featured, and still features, interviews of and by celebrities.
The August 11th issue of Interview, features an article by writer and Editorial Assistant, Ary Russell, who invited Interview staff writers to name Everything Andy Warhol Would Have Loved About 2026.
The list includes Shake Shack (Warhol loved hamburgers), GLP-1s, Botox, and peptides, looksmaxxers and Social Media, of course, where anyone can be famous for 15 minutes.
A current exhibit at the Guggenheim explores the history and development of Pop Art in America.
Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now takes visitors back to 1963, when the museum presented Six Painters and the Object, the first museum presentation of Pop art in New York, and the role that British curator and critic Lawrence Alloway played in the introduction of Pop Art to American audiences.
Included in the exhibit are works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and recently acquired works by contemporary artists.
Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now will be on view through January 10, 2027.
