Keith Haring in 3-D

Andy Warhol's Polaroids at the Whitney

The style and substance of the works of Keith Haring (1958-1990) remain as relevant, universal and popular today as they were in the 1980s, when he began his public drawings on New York subway stations.

Haring's works gave credibility to street artists who, like him, were able to take their work from the street to the gallery.

Early works, from 1980 to 1983, are currently on view at The Brant Foundation in the East Village, the neighborhood where Haring began his career. The exhibit will be on view through May 31, 2026.

Two of the cars that Haring painted are on view in the West Village at the Free Parking Gallery. A painted 1963 Buick Special and a Land Rover will be on display from April 10-19.

The Buick Special will travel to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Arkansas for an exhibit that focuses of Haring’s three dimensional sculptures, totems, masks and other 3-D works by Haring. Keith Haring in 3-D will be on view from June 6, 2026 through January 25, 2027.

One of Haring’s greatest influences and mentors was Andy Warhol (1928-1987). They met at the closing of Haring’s exhibit at the Shafrazi Gallery in 1982. “I will always acknowledge my debt to him…” Haring wrote. “He was the personification of New York. It is hard to imagine what N.Y. will be like without Andy. How will anybody know where go go or what is ‘cool’? Selfishly, I feel like I will lose more than most. I lost a friend, a teacher, and the biggest supporter in the real Art World.”

Haring created a series of prints, titled Andy Mouse, that included a caricature of Andy as Mouse with dollar signs and other Warhol motifs.

An exhibit of Andy Warhol’s Polaroids from 1972 to 1973 will be on view at the Whiney from April 30 through October 19, 2026.

Warhol carried a Polaroid camera with him wherever he went. Andy Warhol Family Album includes photos of his daily life and his travels in the U.S. and Europe.
