This is Art Week in Miami and the energy and excitement can be felt throughout South Florida.
Visitors from all over the world have come to experience the culture and creativity that exists here.
The special atmosphere that exists in Palm Beach has been captured, elegantly, by Serge Strosberg. Strosberg, who has brought much of his own style and grace to the community, is represented by Surovek Gallery.
The Belgian-American artist just happened to walk into the Flagler Museum during Covid. Vintage photographs of Palm Beach, and its founders, were on view. Strosberg, a portrait painter, tried to imagine what the historic figures would look like today. The series he created from those images, Reimagining Palm Beach: Past, Present, Future opened at the Palm Beach County History Museum in 2023. It was shown in several museums around South Florida to much critical acclaim.
One of the outstanding portraits in the exhibit is one of architect Addison Mizner, whose vision influenced the style and character of Palm Beach. Mizner was often seen with a parrot on one shoulder and Johnnie Brown, his pet monkey, on the other.
Strosberg painted Mizner, the parrot and Johnnie Brown for the show, and has continued to paint Johnnie Brown.
Monkeying Around Palm Beach is a series of portraits focused on the fabulous lifestyle of Johnnie Brown.
Johnnie Brown knows how to relax and enjoy all that Palm Beach offers. Strosberg's paintings, done in oil and egg tempera, are rich in color, style and humor and affection.
