The Pop! of Roy Lichtenstein and the Colors of Wolf Kahn at Surovek Gallery

Roy Lichtenstein: Monet’s Garden Goes Pop!

Roy Lichtenstein was not just inspired by comic books; he was a classically trained artist and college professor who was inspired by Japanese art and the works of Picasso, Braque and Monet.

The staff at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida has transformed the gardens to reflect Lichtenstein’s Water Lilies With Reflections series, a limited edition of large-screen prints that reinterpret Monet’s water lilies.

Lichtenstein was a prolific printmaker throughout his career, elevating the print to a high art form in the 1960s. The depth and texture of his prints came from his incorporation of woodcut, collage and industrial materials like Plexiglas and metal in his work.

The Roy Lichtenstein: Monet’s Garden Goes Pop exhibit will be on display at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota through June 27, 2021.

A Tribute to Wold Kahn and Emily Mason

Wolf Kahn (1927–2020) and Emily Mason (1932–2019) shared a life together. They died within months of each other after more than sixty years of marriage. Both were artists who loved color, although their styles were very different.

A recent show at the Miles McEnery Gallery in New York is a tribute to the couple. Wolf Kahn: The Last Decade: 2010-2020 & Emily Mason: Chelsea Paintings focuses on the similarities and differences of both artists.

Both Kahn and Mason were inspired by the surroundings at their West Brattleboro summer home, and both found solace as they worked in their Manhattan studios.
