We have recently acquired works by fine modern and contemporary artists in a range of mediums. Here is a look at the artworks and the artists who created them:
Eric Forstmann (b.1962) paints the everyday objects in his home and studio in Sharon, Connecticut. When he feels the need to get some air, he gets in his truck, finds a scenic spot that appeals to him, and paints a landscape.
Forstmann has been painting since childhood and had formal training at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
His work has not only been shown in major museums and galleries, he also has a following among private collectors Meryl Streep and Don Gummer, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, Warren Beatty and Annette Bening and George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth.

American sculptor, Harriet Whitney Frishmuth (1880-1980), is best known for her bronze sculptures of female figures. She was one of the most successful sculptors of the early twentieth century.
Frishmuth was born in Philadelphia. She lived in Europe for eight years with her mother and sister, after her parents divorce, and studied with Auguste Rodin at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and with Cuno von Uechtritz-Steinkirch in Berlin. When she returned to the States, she studied at the Art Students League.
Frishmuth had dancers model for the beautiful sculptures that now grace gardens and fountains around the world. Firshmuth was elected into the National Academy of Design in 1925 as an Associate member, and became a full Academician in 1929. Her work was part of the sculpture event in the art competition at the 1932 Summer Olympics.
Joy of the Waters, available at Surovek Gallery, was cast in an edition of 30 between 1920 and 1971. Frishmuth submitted Joy of the Waters to the 1925 Women’s World Fair in Chicago, held in April at the American Exposition Palace, and it became one of her most well-known sculptures.
Lu Cong was born in Shanghai in 1978. His family immigrated to the United States when he was 11 years old and settled in Muscatine, Iowa. He earned bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Art from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in Humanities from the University of Colorado.
Lu Cong became a part of the Art Students League in Denver in 2000. He began to paint large portraits, focusing on the face of each subject.
The Witness of My Dreams, 2022, available at Surovek Gallery, is a rare double portrait by the artist.
Irénée Rochard (1906-1984) was born in n Villefranche sur Saône, France. He is best known for his Art Nouveau style bronze sculptures of animals. Rochard studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts in Paris.
His works can be found in major museums and galleries around the world and were purchased by the Paris City Council and the city of New York.
Two Gazelles a recent acquisition, is a wonderful example of the way in which Rochard was able to capture the movement and beauty of his subjects.
Andrew Brischler is an American artist, born in Long Island in 1987. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from SUNY New Paltz with a BFA in painting and drawing and an MFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York.
The Brooklyn-based artist has exhibited his works throughout the U.S. and the UK. Sellout, available at Surovek Gallery, was part of A Pointed Remark show in New York.
